Kevin Thistle to represent Ontario Zone
on the PGA of Canada's National Board of Directors

TORONTO – Kevin Thistle will start his duties as the Ontario Zone representative on the PGA of Canada's National Board of Directors after next week’s AGM.

Thistle, a member of the PGA of Ontario since 1984 and the Executive Professional and President of Coppinwood Golf Club, says he’s always found it inspiring and a source of learning to give back to the association and charity groups.

“With the election to the position this year I thought the timing was right to give back to the association,” Thistle says. “I’m proud to be a PGA of Canada member and hopefully I can bring some of my experience from other boards and committees to contribute in some small way to the national association.”

Thistle has and continues to sit on numerous charitable boards and committees that have included; Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada, The Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation Committee’s, The Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation’s One Night Live, The Toronto Raptors Foundation and The Golf Management Institute of Canada Board, to name a few.

In the golf world Kevin was mentored by legends such as; Murray Tucker, Wilson Paterson, Bill Walsh, Warren Crosbie, Ron Rayner, Clayton Cary, John Porter and others. “These professionals motivated me and inspired me to be the best professional that I could be. I have always remembered their lessons, and throughout my career I have tried to give back in every way possible,” he says.

Thistle’s golf career has spanned 34 golf seasons. He spent the first 14 seasons at Seaton GC followed by 15 seasons at Angus Glen GC. He was the proud host professional of the 2002 & 2007 RBC Canadian Open, the 2001 CN Canadian Women’s Open and the 2001 Telus Skins Game. Thistle has also been the host professional for many PGA of Ontario events including; the PGA of Ontario Fall Scramble and the Assistant’s Team Championships. He has also served on various PGA of Ontario and PGA of Canada boards and committees over the years.

I have been proud to be a PGA of Ontario Professional. In my opinion, a professional’s contributions should include more than just those on the golf course, the lesson tee or in the pro shop,” he says. “While these are very important aspects and are the core values that attracted me to this great profession, the modern day golf professional should also be a leader. Not only a leader at his club, but also in his local community and the business community at large.”

Thistle is also a member of the Young Presidents’ Association, The Canadian Society of Club Managers and the NGCOA, and always presents himself as a PGA of Ontario Golf Professional first.

Earlier this year, Brock Balog of Alberta and Quebec’s Dave Levesque were acclaimed new Directors on the national board. Like Thistle, both will not take over their duties until next week’s AGM.

The 2012 Annual General Meeting of the Professional Golfers’ Association of Ontario will be held on Thursday, April 25 at 10 am followed by the PGA of Canada AGM at 1:30 pm at the Crown Plaza Toronto Airport (33 Carlson Court, Toronto).
