Brad Larente takes down two in three-way playoff for CHASE54 Futures Fall Classic

9/7/2016

The Futures Tour is rapidly growing and quickly becoming one of the PGA of Ontario's most popular tours.  With few repeat winners and low entry fees, top spot is always up for grabs and it's a great opportunity for new Professionals to cultivate their playing ability.  The CHASE54 Futures Fall Classic was no exception.  When all the cards were signed and players in, there were three left standing ready to go toe to toe in a three-man playoff.

Brad Larente (Galt Country Club Limited), Dennis Hendershott (hi5golf), and John Najev (Hidden Lake Golf & Country Club) all finished their eighteen holes at 2-under 68.  The trio headed back to the tenth hole to start a sudden death playoff.  Larente, the 2015 Futures Tour Player of the Year, was on the tee first and fired a hybrid over the trees trying to take a short-cut left around the pond landing 130 yards from the green.  John Najev took the more traditional approach hitting driver to the middle of the fairway and was about 160 yards out, and Dennis Hendershott, CHASE54 Futures Summer Challenge winner, hit a very long drive over the pond all together.  After all three re-convened on the green after their second shots, the playoff became a putt-off.  A set of three two-putts and their eyes moved to the eleventh hole, the 178 yard par 3.  Larente was the only one that found the green and his two-putt par was too much for Hendershott and Najev, who both missed their par putt.  "I treat a playoff like match play," Larente revealed after the win.  "I try and make good shots and wait for the other guys to make a mistake."

It wasn't the first time Larente used that short cut either.  "I saw some of the guys doing that the first time I played here.  I have only used the correct fairway once and it didn't work out that well for me, so I've used the shortcut ever since."  Larente becomes the third CHASE54 Futures Tour winner this year and along with his share of the purse, he walks away fully outfitted in CHASE54 gear.
