Defending Champion of Merit Golf Vacations Ontario PGA Match Play Championship Presented by LastMinuteGolfer Goes Down in Third Round
- Fourth Round Match Ups to Be Played by August 15, 2009

(Pickering, Ont., July 23, 2009)
– The third round of the Ontario PGA Match Play Championship is complete and only 16 players remain. Unfortunately for 2008 champion Lynden D’Aloisio (Magna) he will not be part of the final 16 players as he was beaten in his match against 2008 runner up Ken Tarling (Ken Tarling Golf Academy). The Ontario PGA Match Play Championship began in April with the first round and runs until September 18th when the final four players will meet one another at The National Golf Club of Canada.

D’Aloisio who beat Tarling in the 08 final 1 up was not on his game for the always tenacious Tarling and lost the match 3 & 2.

“Ken played well and his short game is unbelievable,” said D’Aloisio. “I didn’t have my ‘A’ game and with Ken you sort of need it, but hey we had fun and that is what match play is all about,” added D’Aloisio.

Tarling will now face 2006 Match Play Champion Danny King in what is arguably the toughest bracket (Moe Norman). The winner of that match will have the pleasure of playing either Billy Walsh (Beacon Hall) or 2007 Champion Andy Holborn.

In the Ben Kern bracket Greg Colekessian (Georgian Bay Club) took out Jeff Palmer (Lora Bay) who upset Scott Bogle (King Valley) in the second round. Colekessian will now face the 2004 Match Play Champion, Tom Jackson (Oslerbrook). The winner of that match will then go on to face either Gordie Burns (Golden Ridge) or Gary Boyce (The Rock).

It’s anyone’s guess in the George Knudson bracket in terms of who will come out on top. Four strong players remain with Dave Levesque taking on JP Bedard (International) while Reggie Millage (Glen Abbey Academy) takes on the 2008 fourth place finisher, Colin Murray (Peninsula Lakes).

The Al Balding also has three strong players left. Recent Ontario PGA Assistants’ Summer Champion Eddie Maunder (Deerfield) will take on Piero Poletto (Country Club) while Jim Kenesky (Lowville) will face Brian Hadley (Huron Oaks).

The 2009 Ontario PGA Match Play Championship final will be played on September 18, 2009 at The National Golf Club of Canada. The finalists from each division will play a semi final match in the morning followed by the championship and consolation match in the afternoon.
